About the Instructors

Christie Stockstill is an Austin, Texas based artist specializing in family journalism, creative portraiture and fine art photography. She has worked as a portrait photographer since she stopped teaching high school in 2008. She is married to a very understanding man, who often finds himself in front of her camera, and she has two young boys, who, not always as willingly, find themselves in front of her camera.

She does quite a bit of portrait work, and her portrait work has grown into her fine art work. Christie’s photographs are often quiet and organic, mysterious and earthy, but may also be full of energy and fantasy, playfulness and humor. Whatever the case, she wants her photographs to provoke a visceral reaction - to cause the viewer to smile, laugh, swear, tear up, gasp, or forget to breathe.

This intensive workshop will concentrate on techniques and approaches for your personal fine art that can also be utilized to bring a one of a kind look to your client portraiture. We’ll be working with your own images and applying a range of post production techniques - step by step and layer by layer. You’ll leave with a full set of your own layered images as a reference for applying the techniques to other images. The techniques you learn will be useful for not only for your personal fine art images but as a practical method for creating unique client images.

We’ll also explore our personal creative processes to grab inspiration, push our creativity, and overcome creative blocks. We’ll discuss how pre-visualization and discovery are two sides of the same creative coin and how we can use both in image creation. And we’ll talk about enhancing our visual knowledge; we have to know what a good image looks like to make one.

Outcomes:
• Photoshop techniques for fine art image creation
• How creating art for art sake will benefit your business, enhance your marketing and increase your bottom line.
• Using rules and making your own rules to leverage your creativity.
• Creativity is a learned skill available to all of us (not just a few lucky souls )

Everyone is creative!
• How to incorporate art into your studio and make money with it

• How to teach yourself to think like an artist
